Operating Cabin Heat:

A note from our Maintenance Team

Our heating systems operate using REA off-peak control. They are designed to be more energy efficient and environmentally friendly than conventional heating systems by only charging overnight and using the outdoor temperature to anticipate the heating needs for the next 24 hours, limiting wasted heat and power. To control them, you simply need to use the thermostats located on the walls or on the heaters (if the heater has a digital display) to control the temperature in the cabin. These heating systems are designed to maintain a stable temperature throughout your stay, they are not designed to change the temperature significantly in a short period. Our cabins also have either gas or wood-burning fireplaces which supplement the heating systems while providing that cabin-in-the-woods feel.

It’s recommended to set the heat to the level you would like it to be when you arrive on the first day of your stay and allow at least a few hours for the temperature to adjust, although this can take up to 24 hours to stabilize if the change is more than 5 degrees. If you significantly increase the temperature of the cabin, don’t be alarmed if air coming out of the heaters isn’t as hot in the evening, this is normal and they will recharge overnight and add extra heat as needed. Please refrain from placing items on the heaters themselves as they can be hot at times.

If you feel the cabin is too hot, simply turn the thermostats down a little and the cabin will cool off over time. This can be expedited by opening a window or two but don’t forget to close them, it can get really cold at night! Also, do take into account that using the gas or wood-burning fireplaces generates heat as well and will increase the temperature in the cabin. We ask that you please do not turn the thermostats off entirely, 60 degrees would be the lowest temperature we use in winter months.

We ask that only our staff make adjustments to the heaters themselves or turn off electrical breakers. If you have any concerns that the heaters are not operating properly, please notify us right away and we will come assist you. We want you to be comfortable during your stay with us so please don’t hesitate to ask.
