Whether you’re looking to land a trophy walleye or feel the thrill of the fight with a smallmouth bass on the line, an experienced fishing guide can help get you started on your first day on the water or help you navigate some of the finest walleye, lake trout, smallmouth bass or northern pike waters you have ever fished. The Minnesota state record walleye came from the Seagull River just miles from here! Skilled fishing guides are limited, so we recommend booking your guide when you make your vacation reservation to assure you of their services.
With a full-day fishing guide, your guide will cook you up a traditional Minnesota shore lunch or you can choose to take a chef’s choice pack lunch with you from Justine’s if you don’t want to take time away from fishing for lunch. Once you land your catch, your guide will clean and fillet your fish, then the chefs at Justine’s will cook it up for you for dinner or we can freeze it for you to take home with you.

Gunflint fishing guide Jon Schei grew up vacationing on the Gunflint Trail. The highlight of his family’s summer was coming to the Northwoods for camping, canoeing, and fishing. Jon came to work at Gunflint Lodge in 1992, following college and eight years in the golf business. Jon began full-time fishing guiding in 1994. The fishing opener in 2023 marked his 30th season of guiding Gunflint guests to the same fond memories of the Minnesota Northwoods that he has from his childhood, and hopefully also to catch the fish of a lifetime. Hey, my name is Austin (AJ) I’ve been with the lodge since 2022. I grew up in southern Wisconsin, fishing for anything under the sun making me a well-rounded angler. I didn’t grow up in the area but, I consider it a second home, having access to a family cabin and fishing the area since before I can remember. I attended UW Stevens Point where I obtained a Bachelor in Fisheries and a natural love for flyfishing. This led me to start tying my flies and getting into professional guiding. Whether you’re interested in conventional fishing for Walleye and Lake Trout or fly fishing for Smallmouth and Northern Pike I’m the guide for you. I can also take people out canoe fishing upon request.

Hi, I’m Lance Huskey. I have lived in Cook County my entire life. I graduated from Cook County High School in 1995 and have over 25 years of fishing guide experience on lakes in the area. I married my love Mandy in Sept 2010 and we enjoy every adventure the Northwoods has to offer. Guiding people fishing and imparting on them my knowledge of fish is what I love to do. I like to provide an amazing guided fishing experience that will be remembered for a lifetime. Land me as your fishing guide!
Free Fishing Fun For Kids
As a complimentary activity for overnight lodge guests, our dock staff will take your children (2 kids at a time, between 5-12 years old) out for a single two-hour fishing experience on Gunflint Lake. Kids must be accompanied by at least one adult for a maximum of 3 participants. Multiple trips can be scheduled for larger groups. We’ll gear them up with PFDs as well as bait & tackle, and we’ll take them out for a first-time fishing outing they won’t forget! This activity is offered based on staff availability. Cancellation Policy: Cancellations made more than 30 days in advance will receive a 100% refund of the deposit. Cancellations made within 30 days – 72 hours will be refunded the deposit minus a software/processing fee. Cancellations made within 72 hours will forfeit the full 25% deposit. If we cancel the activity/rental for any reason, a 100% refund will be issued within 7 – 10 business days.
