This will be our 6th annual Gunflint Greenup weekend. For the first few years we
concentrated on planting trees in areas affected by the Ham Lake fire of 2007. In
following years we have worked releasing the trees we planted. That means cutting
the vegetation that was starting to crowd out our plantings so they can get past their
critical growth period and get the sunlight they need to get big and tall.
This year our Green Up weekend will have a variety of projects—more tree
planting, some releasing, and some trail work at the Chik-Wauk museum. There is
always more stewardship work to do, as we take pride in helping nurture new forest
growth to replace what was lost in the Ham Lake fire of 6 years ago, and to renew
other areas that need a new mix of smaller trees to go with the mature aspen, birch
and pines.
We will all go out on Saturday (and Friday if you opt for a 3 night package) for
several hours and be good stewards for the land and contribute to the health of the
forest in the Gunflint area.
Includes: Best cabin available, all meals, and project leaders. Taxes are additional.
Please bring a set of nippers, if you have one, for cutting small saplings.
